Star Wars: 10 Ways The New Films Could Improve The Prequels
7. Show Darth Maul's Desperate Bid For Revenge
One of the biggest mistakes George Lucas made during the Star Wars prequels was having Obi-Wan chop Darth Maul in half, robbing the prequels of its most interesting villain. It later transpired that Maul survived the encounter and returned in The Clone Wars and other tie-in materials. But this came too late for the prequels, with the movie-going audiences having to make do with second rate supporting baddies like General Grievous, Count Dooku and the Separatists until Palpatine eventually joined the action in Revenge Of The Sith. Maul deserved a better ending than a few animated encounters and comic books, and perhaps the new films could give him one. Although it seems unlikely that Maul survived long enough to show up in Episode VIII or IX, and he wouldn't really fit in Rogue One or Han Solo, theres nothing to say that an as-yet-unannounced movie couldnt be allocated to Darth Maul. He is in Rebels, after all. Just imagine it an action packed revenge flick set at some point between Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope, detailing Darth Mauls quest to track down Obi-Wan in order to finally get his own back and defeat the man who chopped off his legs. It would be a pure rage rampage, with loads of awesome fight scenes, and could correct one of the prequel trilogys greatest errors. If Darth Maul's story had a better ending, perhaps everyone would stop slagging off The Phantom Menace.
