Star Wars: 13 Biggest Rumours You Need To Know (Jan 21st)

11. ...And Captain Phasma Will Have A Bigger Role

Captain Phasma looks incredibly cool, so naturally there was a lot of excitement to see her character in action in The Force Awakens. Unfortunately, it didn't really amount to anything, as she had limited screentime and was then stuffed down a garbage chute. However, that wasn't the end of the character, and she's confirmed to be coming back for Episode VIII. Further than that, Kathleen Kennedy said: "She's an important character, a baddie in the best sense of the word." Now, similar things were said before The Force Awakens of course. Still, it's a comment that has been jumped on, with the expectation now being that we'll get a lot more of Phasma in the sequel. Rating: 8/10 Importance doesn't necessarily mean having a lot of screentime. Max von Sydow's character was important to the plot, but was dispatched fairly quickly. The Bothans were important to bringing down the Empire, but we never saw them. So Kennedy calling Phasma important doesn't completely imply that we'll be getting loads more of her. It could be that she does more in the same amount of time, or - given this quote came from a feature on women in Star Wars - that she's important as being a female villain/Stormtrooper. That being said, she can't really have a smaller role second time around, and with a sense of vengeance perhaps on her mind she should get a bit more to do.
