Star Wars: 14 Awesome Deleted Scenes You Won't Believe They Cut
10. Luke Builds His Lightsaber - Return Of The Jedi
An alternate opening to Return of the Jedi shows Vader attempting to connect with Luke through the Force, after which Luke is revealed to be putting the finishing touches to his lightsaber in a cave with a little help from R2-D2.
Though C-3PO's subsequent chit-chat could probably remain a DVD extra, this original re-introduction to Luke is just ridiculously cool from a stylistic perspective, making the most of its rather ominous locale and Luke's hooded appearance.
It basically emphasises a lot of the images and ideas that people love about Return of the Jedi (the Luke-Vader connection, Luke wrestling with the dark side, and his cool lightsaber), and though you can argue that Luke arriving at Jabba’s Palace makes for a more startling, crowd-pleasing return, there's something incredibly magical and cinematic about this unused sequence.
