Star Wars: 15 Moments That Pissed Off Every Fan
9. Midi-Chlorians (The Phantom Menace)
Lucas learnt the classic screenwriting lesson the hard way, that sometimes less is more, and it's possible to give people too much by over-explaining the mythology at hand.
In the Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon explains to Anakin the essence of the Force are Midi-Chlorians, intelligent life forms that reside within all living cells and allow those with high Midi-Chlorian counts access to the Force.
For one, Midi-Chlorian is a stupid name, and secondly, making an exact science out of cell counts in relation to the Force removes a lot of the mystique and intrigue that, to be honest, was much better left ambiguous and vague.
Just try and find someone who will defend this needless addition to the franchise.
