One of the most arduous aspects of the film's shoot was the Endor scenes, which were filmed in a forest near Crescent City, California.

The treacherous forest location was physically challenging for the dwarf Ewok actors, leading to an on-set "mutiny" as a large number of the Ewok performers decided to feign abandoning the set altogether.

Production assistant Ian Bryce recalled making his way to the set one day and finding a note from the Ewok actors, explaining they were fed up with their treatment and had left for the airport.

In a panic, Bryce tried to follow them but ended up with a flat tire just outside the set, and once as he found another car, a bus containing the Ewok actors arrived to set, with the performers all wearing "Revenge of the Ewok" shirts. It was in fact an elaborate prank.
