Star Wars: 7 Perfect Performances & 7 That Sucked
5. Forest Whitaker As Saw Gerrera
When news broke that Oscar-winning Forest Whitaker was joining the cast of the first Star Wars spin-off project, Rogue One, fans were rightfully excited to see what this exceptionally talented actor would bring to the film. Things took an unexpected turn when it was revealed that Whitaker would be playing Saw Gerrera, a character who had appeared briefly in the animated series The Clone Wars. Whitaker's actual performance in the film was, well... strange.
Saw appeared in Rogue One as a rebel extremist with major cybernetic enhancements, who had partially mentored and raised the films protagonist, Jyn Erso. Whitaker spoke his confusing dialogue in an exaggerated, raspy voice and bounced between emotions making his character unintentionally comical during serious moments in the film.
He was then quickly dispatched by a blast from the Death Star which destroyed the city on Jedha as the rest of the gang made a swift escape. Like many actors on this list, there is a strong sense of wasted talent when it comes to Whitaker's appearance in the saga. Since Rogue One, Whitaker has reprised his role as Saw in Star Wars Rebels and video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
