Star Wars: 7 Perfect Performances & 7 That Sucked
4. Samuel L. Jackson As Mace Windu
The 90s was a great decade to be Samuel L. Jackson. He performed some of his most iconic roles appearing in films such as Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park, Jackie Brown, Die Hard: With a Vengeance just to name a few.
Unfortunately for Jackson, the decade did not end on a high with his performance as Mace Windu in The Phantom Menace. An actor known for shining in high intensity roles was cast as perhaps the most boring Jedi to appear in the Star Wars saga at that point in time. The majority of his screen time was spent sitting in his council chair, spouting dialogue so dull it makes you question if this even is the same actor who played Jules Winnfield only a few years prior.
The most disappointing thing about Jackson as Mace Windu is the feeling that such a good actor was wasted in the role, due to a mixture of miscasting and poor writing. Things did improve slightly for Jackson in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith where he debuted his trademark purple lightsaber and even engaged Darth Sidious in a duel before being killed by the fallen Anakin Skywalker.
