Star Wars: 7 Perfect Performances & 7 That Sucked
3. Alec Guinness As Obi-Wan Kenobi (Perfect!)

Sir Alec Guinness holds the current title of the only actor to be Oscar-nominated for a performance in a Star Wars film and it's not hard to see why. Although Guinness famously hated the experience of making A New Hope and would openly criticise the franchise afterwards, that did not stop him from delivering one of the greatest performances in the entire saga.
The veteran actor seemed to be made for playing the mysterious hermit watching over young Luke on Tatooine. Guinness made clear in interviews his disdain for the dialogue in the film calling it 'fairytale rubbish' and yet he speaks it so eloquently you would believe this man has lived his entire life as a Jedi Knight. Guinness carries an enormous presence with him throughout the film which is unparalleled.
His performance laid a lot of groundwork for Ewan McGregor's equally impressive take on the character during the prequel trilogy. Even with a resume as impressive as his, Guinness will always be known most of his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in A New Hope.
