Star Wars: 8 Things That The Sequel Trilogy Got RIGHT

6. The Lightsaber Duels

Star Wars The Force Awakens Kylo Ren Rey

It’s not like Star Wars has never had great lightsaber duels before.

Who could forget Luke versus Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back, or Anakin versus Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith? But despite these standouts, some of the duels from both the prequel and original trilogy could still be a little hit or miss.

The rematch between Vader and an older Obi-Wan in A New Hope sticks out, with the fight consisting of the actors just carefully poking each other for a few minutes out of fear of damaging the props. And the prequel trilogy had its odd moments too, like the part in the aforementioned Revenge of the Sith showdown where the two combatants just spin their lightsabers at each other for a few seconds.

The sequels strike a perfect balance between the restrained nature of the original trilogy fights and the often over choreographed prequel showdowns. When Kylo Ren roars as he swings his weapon, you really feel as though he’s about to do some damage and it makes you more worried for whichever hero he’s facing down.

Also, the new direction gave us that amazing throne room scene from The Last Jedi. No further explanation needed.

Owen Davies hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
