Star Wars: 9 Lightsabers You Didn't Know Exist (And What They Mean)
1. Hinged-Double Bladed Lightsaber
The lightsaber that made everyone's head spin when it appeared in the second trailer for the Rise of Skywalker, the hinged-double bladed lightsaber has actually been around for a long time, first making its debut in The Clone Wars animated series with the appearance of Pong Krell.
Krell was the same species of alien as Dex - the owner of the diner that helped Obi-Wan track down Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones - and his approach to combat was anything but subtle. Because he had four arms he actually wielded two hinged-double bladed lightsabers at once, and if you think that sounds overkill, it's probably because it was.
A few Jedi Temple guards also utilised hinged sabers, but their full history hasn't really been determined, nor is it clear why Rey is wielding one in Episode IX. Could it be a Sith trick? Or maybe an actual weapon she finds over the course of its story? We'll have to wait until December 20 to find out.
