Star Wars: 9 Lightsabers You Didn't Know Exist (And What They Mean)
6. Lightsaber Rifle
So, you may think that a lightsaber is just that - a sword made of pure energy. But various forces have utilised Kyber Crystals in all sorts of ways in the past, even concocting lightsaber blasters and rifles to be used in combat.
The first lightsaber rifle appeared in Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith, and was used by Jocasta Nu (the librarian from Attack of the Clones) against Darth Vader at the Jedi Temple. The basic mechanism involved inserting the hilt of the lightsaber above the barrel. Once activated, the rifle would condense the energy generated by the blade into projectile blasts, but could only manage about five shots before the saber itself combusted.
The lightsaber rifle hasn't seen prolific usage in a galaxy far, far away, but it's certainly an interesting weapon. The idea of utilising a lightsaber as a projectile weapon was also covered in Star Wars Rebels, where fugitive Jedi Ezra Bridger integrated a blaster component into his first lightsaber.
