Star Wars: 9 Reasons The Special Editions Are Secretly Better

6. That Extended Shot Of The Sandcrawler In A New Hope Looks Pretty Sick

The original version of Star Wars (it only became A New Hope when re-released in 1981, fact fans) sees the sandcrawler apparently beached on the top of a sand dune, wobbling about uncertainly like a plastic bag caught in a bush on a lonely moor. In the retrofitted version, there€™s longer, much closer shot of a model sandcrawler busting all sorts of nuts as it ploughs through the desert screaming €˜MOVE GET OUT OF THE WAY I€™M A SANDCRAWLER YOU DICK€™. It is a basically meaningless change, granted, but it seems a shame to have a cool piece of design like the sandcrawler be introduced to the audience as a kind of mechanical dithering machine rather than the environment-wreckin€™ dudemobile it clearly is.
