Star Wars 9 Title: What Does 'The Rise Of Skywalker' Really Mean?
5. Luke Will (Probably) Have A Major Role
Though Luke became one with the Force at the end of The Last Jedi, he's already been confirmed to appear in The Rise of Skywalker, prompting much discussion about how exactly he could "rise."
After all, the common expectation among most fans is that Luke will have a fairly small cameo role in the film, passing off some sage advice to Rey and then giving her the centre-stage to battle Kylo Ren.
Some have already theorised that this could indicate Luke has a much larger role in the film than expected, and the final battle could revolve as much around Luke vs. Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) as it does Rey vs. Kylo.
But like the possibility of Rey being Luke's daughter, this again feels like a bit of a misdirect.
It's entirely possible that, in the stead of apologising for The Last Jedi killing Luke, J.J. Abrams will indeed find a way to make Luke the feature attraction once again, but if we're truly supposed to buy Rey as the new figurehead of the franchise, that would probably be a creative misstep.
