Star Wars Episode 7: 10 Expanded Universe Stories That Should Be Used For Inspiration

8. X-Wing Series

It€™s been a long time since I€™ve read the X-Wing series of books. They were among some of the first that I had read as a teenager when first exploring the Star Wars EU. These books introduced us to a lot of Star Wars EU characters that I think would really translate well into live action. When talk of a Star Wars small screen or TV show was in the works, I had hopes that the X-Wing series could be a possible setting. There is such a multitude of stories and great diverse characters that could have been presented to us. The bulk of these books take place roughly 2-3 years after Return of Jedi and focuses on the continuing struggles against the Empire. It terms of EU, it€™s important to remember that after the death of the Emperor and the destruction of the second Death Star, the Empire was still ruling the galaxy. We get a lot of characters that are minor or supporting in the movies, mainly Wedge Antilles, that become main staples in these books. We also get a lot of characters that we see again in terms of EU in later books. The capstone event that would be great to see: The retaking of Coruscant. We see the Empire take control in Episode III, I feel it is important to see the Rebels / New Republic take it back. This is epic in the novels and I remember being hooked as a kid reading this. Likelihood of being a film: 6, perhaps some elements from these.
