Star Wars Episode 7: 5 Reasons It Could Be Awesome and 5 Reasons It Could Suck

3. New Directors

The Star Wars films have only had three directors, George Lucas (I, II, III, IV), Irvin Kershner (V), and Richard Marquand (VI), and so not many directors have been able to step into that world and put their own personal stamp on it. Lucas handing over the rights to Disney allows for new directors to come in and do just that. Ever since the announcement, people have already started thinking of potential directors, and there are a lot of great choices to choose from. Maybe Lucas€™s good friend Steven Spielberg will want to finally get his hands on a Star Wars film. Or how about the countless directors who took their inspiration from Star Wars, such as J.J. Abrams or Christopher Nolan? There are many potential directors who will usher in a new era of Star Wars, and hopefully Disney will think carefully about who they give the job to. There is also the question of how the process will exactly go about. Will Disney hire one director for the entire trilogy and create a singular vision, or will they get different directors for each film and allow them creative freedom? Such thoughts are just one of the reasons why the prospect of new Star Wars directors is so exciting, and you can bet fans will be standing on the sidelines waiting for the announcement.
