Star Wars Episode 7: 5 Reasons It Could Be Awesome and 5 Reasons It Could Suck

2. No George Lucas

Say what you will about George Lucas, but he is a fascinating individual. He went through a grueling experience making the original Star Wars; doing what ever it took to put his vision on film. His struggles are there on screen, and the final product is all the stronger for it. He became one of Hollywood€™s greatest success stories, and has since turned the Star Wars brand into one of the world€™s biggest franchises. Success can change a person, however, and while Lucas retained his creative control he fought so hard for, his success surrounded him with yes men, and hence we got the prequels, films that may have been exactly what Lucas imagined but lacked the humanity of the previous trilogy. It is of the opinion of many that Lucas has since become his own worst enemy, and so it is actually a relief to see him step away from his universe. This allows others with a passion for Star Wars to get a chance to create something new and different; opening the franchise in ways it never could. The films will now be a more collaborative process, allowing for a wide variety of opinions to come together and create a stronger, more passionate process, and the films can benefit from this. By stepping away from his baby, Lucas is finally allowing it to spread its wings and fly. Where ever it goes, we can only hope it is awesome.
