There has been talk of episodes VII, VIII, IX for as long as the original trilogy has been completed. Naturally, it was always assumed that if these films were to be made that the original cast, including Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, would return. These films would continue on where
Return of the Jedi left off, detailing Lukes attempt at restoring the Jedi Order. Now that nearly 30 years have past and all the actors have aged significantly, such a direction is just not possible. This begs the question as to why these films are even needed. The Star Wars movies have always been about the Skywalker children amidst a galactic civil war, and for the first time, these new films will not be about that, unless they decide to have them be about Luke's child or something. Whether good or not, there is something to be said of such a direction, which makes you question why they even bother, outside of the obvious financial reasons.
