4. Monopolization

This reason has little to do with Star Wars itself and more to do with the nature of Disneys acquisition itself. With Disney now having ownership over Lucasfilm, including Industrial Light & Magic, Skywalker Sound, and LucasArts, it now has ownership over a huge chunk of the market. 2015 is now the year where Disney owns the world, with
Avengers 2 and
Star Wars: Episode VII being released that year. These two films will no doubt be the top two grossing films of the year, and both will go to Disney. This is a bit uncomfortable, to be honest, and anyone who believes that competition fuels passion and growth should feel the same. It also feels a bit strange that Star Wars is no longer a franchise owned by an independent company. Now it is but a smaller part of a huge mega-corporation. I know it is a bit cliché nowadays to thumb your noses at big corporations, but I can't help but feel a bit sad knowing this. It truly is the end of an era, and it remains to be seen whether this is a good thing.
