Star Wars Episode 7: 5 Reasons It Could Be Awesome and 5 Reasons It Could Suck

2. Further Ruination

Many Star Wars fans consider the prequels to be terribly disappointing movies that ruined the back story of the original trilogy. The story of Anakin Skywalker and his fall to the dark side has been known since the beginning, and fans anticipated the prequels more than any other film series. What they got were competently filmed movies on a technical level, but lacking when it comes to story structure, acting, and characterization. Among the many complaints is the focus on politics, illogical character motives, ill-timed comic relief characters, and the over-reliance on computer-generated imagery. All of these complaints can be, and have been, placed on George Lucas, due to him having complete creative control. With Disney, it remains to be seen whether they can deliver good Star Wars films. In fact, is possible that they can ruin the franchise even more. Star Wars has not been the same franchise it started out as for a long time, and with each new addition, it is possible to diminish its returns. This is possible with any franchise, which is why one always hopes that it knows when to end. Every time it seems like Star Wars might have a definitive ending, we get more, and with more content comes more possibilities of failure. No real Star Wars fans hopes for Disney to fail and deliver a bad film, but as long as the film series continues, it remains a distinct possibility.
