Star Wars Episode IX: Duel Of The Fates - 10 Things We Learned From Colin Trevorrow's Leaked Script
4. Rey Has A New, Double-Bladed Lightsaber From The Beginning
One of the big things fans were hoping for going into Episode IX was to see if Rey would construct a new lightsaber. The Skywalker saber had been ruptured in two after Rey and Kylo's argument in Snoke's throne room, and the assumption was that it was finally gone for good; Rey would construct her own weapon, and finally claim ownership over her own identity, either as a Jedi, or something else.
It takes until the very ending of The Rise of Skywalker for that moment to happen, as Rey spends the majority of the film wielding a reforged Skywalker saber. Trevorrow's film would've taken a different course however, with Rey wielding a double-bladed lightsaber from the beginning of the film.
In the vein of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Rey's new saber would be half her design (again derived from her signature staff) and half Anakin's. In light of the fact Rey initially fought with a staff in the first place, it kind of seems like a no-brainer for her to get this weapon in the finale.
Might it even be possible that the hinged weapon seen in TROS' dark vision was lifted from Trevorrow's draft? It would make sense, given the moment sort of comes out of nowhere in Rise. Now if only we could get some concept art to see what it may have looked like...
