8. Rebels

Star Wars Rebels, like much of the spin-off canon in the last decade or so, was a breath of fresh air to the main series.

Following the exploits of the rebel ship "Ghost" and set after Revenge of the Sith but (mostly) before A New Hope, Rebels is every bit as fun, affecting and stylish as the rest of the franchise. Thanks to some great new characters and storylines, it remains one of the franchise's best efforts.

The series introduced fans to a slew of strong characters, namely Kanan Jarrus (Freddie Prinze Jr), a Jedi Knight and survivor of Order 66, and his new Padawan, Ezra Bridger (Taylor Gray), and followed them as they fought Imperial agents, Maul and more in an attempt to aid the growing Rebellion.

Ahsoka and Rex also turn up, offering some moving and exciting moments for fans of The Clone Wars, and Vader and Obi-Wan both have a chance to make their marks.

The true power of Rebels is the fact that it's subtle; there are no big victories and few overly happy moments, but it carries throughout its four seasons a sense that there is hope for the future as long as the good guys keep fighting. This moral drive and some fantastic character development - mainly seen in Ezra, a character reminiscent of young Anakin and Luke - make Rebels well deserving of its growing fanbase, even if it starts a little slow in the first season.
