Star Wars: EVERY Movie & TV Show Ranked Worst To Best
17. Various Ewok Spin-Offs
Following the conclusion of the original trilogy, George Lucas decided to develop a new spin-off for ABC Studios, only this time make it much better than the dismal Holiday Special. What he ended up with was a made-for-TV called Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure.
Although by no means the kind of thing you'd instantly associate with the Star Wars universe, the film itself wasn't too shabby; it was well made, courtesy of director John Korty, and it made for a fun deviation from the source material.
Plus, kids loved Ewoks, even if these days they seem a bit hit and miss.
Caravan of Courage did well and lead to a sequel. Ewoks: The Battle for Endor wasn't as good as the first spin-off, which had seen a space-travelling family trapped on the Ewok planet, but remained quietly fun. Also, Paul Gleason turned up in a rare likeable role as a stranded pilot.
Since both the specials struck a chord with audiences, ABC decided to have a go at making a spin-off TV show. Running between 1985 and 1986, the simply-titled Ewoks was Star Wars first real foray into the world of animated storytelling. The show ran as a two-part deal with Droids, for two seasons. It wasn't as fun and exciting as the made-for-TV movies, and has since fell into obscurity.
Still, for kids they're a good view, even if they're a touch on the silly side and are far removed from the Star Wars we know.
