Star Wars: EVERY Movie & TV Show Ranked Worst To Best
16. The Rise Of Skywalker
This might be a controversially low ranking considering the other projects on this list, but rest assured that it's place doesn't mean it is a bad film.
As with all the main features of the franchise, The Rise of Skywalker is a visually stunning and often affecting picture; it's tense, frightening and emotional.
Released in 2019 as the ninth film in the main storyline - the "Skywalker Saga" - it tied up the story and legacy of Anakin and Luke.
Unfortunately, it's here where RotS hits some snags.
First off, there's the re-introduction of Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), who is revealed as the villain between the First Order and the now-dead Snoke. Whilst his re-introduction makes for some stellar visuals, the Dark Lord's presence in the film makes the last eight instalments near redundant.
Turns out, Anakin's redemption was for nothing, since he didn't destroy the Sith as foretold, and the looming figure of Snoke is made a pointless addition to the franchise as a whole. It's like he was lumped in to make up for the fact that the Sequel Trilogy was without a big bad to have a final showdown with.
On top of that, characters such as Finn, Poe, Chewie and Hux are either sidelined or completely betrayed by the narrative. The tone is all off, the Final Order is far too easily vanquished, and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), whilst wonderfully performed, remains incredibly inconsistent throughout.
