Star Wars: Everything We Know So Far About The Obi-Wan TV Show
3. He Will Be Transitioning In The Force
As we know already, Obi-Wan has changed considerably by the time we catch up with him again in A New Hope; the days of him leaping down among a legion of battledroids and challenging their commander to a fight are long over.
While he's not above lopping off a limb or two in the dank squalor of the Mos Eisley Cantina, Alec Guinness's aged Jedi Master mostly operates by stealth and subtlety in Episode IV. With a wave of his hand, he can sweet-talk Imperial Troops and even tiptoe around a Death Star completely unnoticed. It makes sense that these are the kind of traits acquired by a Jedi who wished to remain discreet and in hiding for the best part of 20 years.
It seems likely then that McGregor's latest incarnation of the character will also use the force sparingly and for best effect. A Jedi who wants to remain in hiding can't go around waving his lightsaber every five minutes - or you'd think so, anyway...
We also know that he spent his secluded years in communication with Qui-Gon Jinn, the errant Jedi Knight played by Liam Neeson in The Phantom Menace. The prequel trilogy makes clear that it's through Qui-Gon that the Jedi learn "the secret to immortality" and can become force ghosts. Therefore, a cameo from Neeson's character at some point would not be a total surprise.
