Star Wars: Han Solo - 9 Big Implications Of Lord & Miller's Firing

5. So The Anthology Films Might Be All Samey

Following on from that previous point, it does continue something all of the reshoots on Rogue One suggested: these Anthology films aren't going to be that different.

When the spin-offs were announced, it was exciting because of the chance to deviate away from the Skywalker lineage and all the pre-requisite Star Wars iconography and themes that came with it.

There was talk of different tones and different genres. A war movie. A comedy. A Western. A romance. Etc etc.

Even with reshoots, Rogue One was indeed a dark war movie, but it was brought closer to Star Wars with extra Darth Vader. Similarly, this one sounds like it is being made less of a comedy, and with Kennedy and Kasdan wanting to do things the way they're used to, suggests again it'll hue closer to something more typically Star Wars.

With at least one more anthology movie to come in 2020 - quite likely an Obi-Wan film - and presumably many more after that, there is the risk the films will have to follow a certain style and become too samey, a similar feeling to when Edgar Wright left Ant-Man at Marvel Studios (another Disney-owned studio).
