Star Wars: How Episode 9 Fixes The Last Jedi’s Biggest Mistakes
2. Giving Poe An Integral Role
Why, when you have an actor like Oscar Isaac and a character who everybody went nuts for after the first film, do you resign Poe to literally staying on a ship for the entirety of the sequel, pushing buttons and leading a coup that doesn't go anywhere?
It's remained baffling for two years now, but for Rise of Skywalker, part of J.J.'s plan to have all the heroes uniting in one place doesn't only mean that Poe gets to hang out more with Finn and Rey, but that he's on screen for the majority of the film.
Poe was instrumental in saving the crew across The Force Awakens, only to singlehandedly blow up Starkiller Base's generator when given the chance. The Last Jedi took this undercurrent of gung-ho'ism and made him an altogether more considered leader - something that also came across in his spin-off comic series - so it'll be fascinating to see how he fits into Episode IX's story.
