To some, Leia's "flight scene" in Last Jedi was a beautiful moment, teased and earned over time, going all the way back to her sensing Luke was in danger at the close of Empire Strikes Back.

To others... it looked like Mary Poppins in space.

Regardless, for Episode IX, J.J. Abrams had mentioned in the past that there was enough footage shot during The Force Awakens to still give Leia a sizeable role, and that it would be the perfect send-off for the character.

We got a small example of that in the teaser; a shot that's immediately heartwarming and heart-wrenching in equal measure, but indicative of the level of confidence Abrams and co. must have with the remaining footage.

Where at one point, the new trilogy was described as one movie per Original Trilogy character (TFA for Han, TLJ for Luke, and Episode IX for Leia), it seems we're getting one hell of a sombre final appearance from such a legendary figure on and off the screen.
