Star Wars: Ranking All The Movie Endings From Worst To Best
2. Episode VII: The Force Awakens
While some may criticise The Force Awakens for its callbacks to the original Star Wars movie, few could dispute that J.J. Abrams' reboot of the franchise was a great return to form after the disappointment of the prequels.
With strong new characters and a welcome return for heroes of old, Episode VII was everything that fans wanted a modern Star Wars movie to be. The film's conclusion is also suitably brilliant. The climactic lightsaber duels between first Kylo Ren and Finn, and then Kylo and Rey are dramatic and powerful, while the death of a beloved character (you know the one) doesn't lose its power on repeat viewings. You also get the added cliffhangers of Snoke ordering Hux to bring him Kylo Ren so he can finish his training, and the question over whether the badly wounded Finn will survive.
The final shots of the movie are especially memorable. Luke Skywalker's presence was felt throughout The Force Awakens but he doesn't appear until the movie's final moments. Rey travels to a new planet and encounters the older, grizzled looking Luke to return his lightsaber. The ultimate reveal of Luke to conclude the movie was so simple and yet so perfect.
