Star Wars: Ranking Every Final Battle From Worst To Best
7. Solo
Solo's climax is a much more intimate affair than any prior film in the franchise and that is a great thing. Unlike Rogue One, whose gargantuan finale could feel a bit misplaced at times, Solo's finale doesn't feature any big space battles or a war.
Instead, it focuses solely on Han Solo and his deal with Dryden Vos. It features double crosses, a just-the-right-amount-of-stupid plan from Han, Paul Bettany absolutely chewing the scenery, and a scene-stealing cameo. Unlike Attack of the Clones, where it just gets bigger and bigger, Solo's only gets smaller as it goes. And in the end, it all culminates in a single, Western-tinged standoff where Han corners Beckett and shoots him.
It's telling that it doesn't even end with an elongated shootout sequence between the two, but with a single shot. It is truer to these characters and is a key moment for Han as a character. For a film that claimed to tell the story of how Han became the character audiences met in the Cantina in 1977, a finale ending on some gargantuan setpiece would have felt untrue to the character. So here, less is definitely more.
