13. Supreme Leader Snoke

The Death: Supreme Leader Snoke dies in The Last Jedi after Kylo Ren, fed up with his master’s treatment of him, disobeys his orders to murder Rey and instead commits the shocking act of slicing Andy Serkis’ character in half.

Ranking Explained: Supreme Leader Snoke was introduced in The Force Awakens and immediately prompted Star Wars fans to ponder his origins. His theme sounded uncannily like the one used for the story of Darth Plagueis in Revenge of the Sith and he, as well as Darth Maul and even a reincarnated Darth Vader, were theorised to be the mysterious master to Kylo Ren.

However, fast-forward two years and one film later, and Snoke’s origins remain a mystery. Unfortunately, it looks like the ship of explanation has already sailed and while Serkis’ character DOES have a backstory, that tale looks likely to be explained another time rather than in the current trilogy, with his death seemingly ending his story arc.

Snoke’s death comes in one of the Last Jedi’s most memorable scenes, but his character’s lack of depth means it leaves fans frustrated. For shock factor it succeeds but you cannot help but feel Johnson got this decision wrong when fans had expected so much more.

Sport and Film. I love them both. And I'm extremely lucky to write about two of my biggest passions in life. Most of the time, I'm at the Daily Express newspaper writing about football, tennis and F1. But, when I'm out of there, I let my imagination run wild and pen down my thoughts on the film series' I love. WhatCulture gives me the chance to write about the movie industry - an industry I really care about. And for that, I'm extremely grateful. And hope you, if you're reading this, enjoy what I think about stuff.
