Rogue One does a tidy job of explaining away one of the most-cited criticisms about A New Hope: why the hell would a gigantic super-weapon with the size and intricacy of the Death Star have such a blatant weakness, the exposed exhaust port, in plain sight?

It's a rather contrived plot point that fans just have to put up with, but it's made distinctly more plausible by one particular revelation in Rogue One.

While it doesn't completely paper over its absurdity, it will put to rest a lot of the nerdy nitpicks fans have had with the ending of A New Hope for the last four decades.
