Star Wars Rogue One: 8 Things We Learned From New International Trailer

Fans have speculated Galen Erso doesn't appear to give his services to the Empire willingly. Galen has a special talent of some sort and Director Orson Krennic needs his expertise for construction of the Death Star. Galen's specialty appears to revolve around the main laser of the super weapon and Krennic needs him to help design or perfect it.

While Galen's apparent forced abduction has been shown in each trailer, the impact it has on his family is slightly expanded upon with the new international trailer. In the trailer, a young Jyn appears running on a planet as Krennic and his shuttle arrives carrying a squad of Death Troopers. Krennic's arrival can only have massive implications for the entire Erso family and their destiny within the galaxy.

World history is full of the greatest minds being forced to work for totalitarian regimes. The works of superior intellectuals isn't always from the desire to do evil or spread death. It's possible the Empire could be using the Erso family as leverage in forcing Galen to go along with the Death Star project. Galen is a main plagued with a brilliant mind, forced into Imperial servitude.
