Star Wars: Rogue One - Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best
3. Darth Vader
A big question mark over this film was concerning its use of Darth Vader. How would of him would we see? Would he be let of the leash completely, or kept shackled?
The answer to the first is 'enough' or 'the right amount'; the answer to the second is undoubtedly the former.
Darth Vader isn't in the movie a lot, but his presence hovers throughout, and when the end credits roll it's he who will be freshest in your mind.
There's a very nice moment when it's revealed he is the one in the bacta tank, and, in an interesting touch, is living in exile on Mustafar - healing himself, but also surrounding himself with the past, forcing himself to live with the pain.
Then there's his scene with Krennic, which is a glimpse at how intimidating he is, and also another example of his indifference to the Death Star.
But it's the end of the film that he really shines. Just when you're thinking he's been underused, he enters the scene, ignites his lightsaber, and unleashes hell. This is one of the very best, most intense, terrifying, and also gleeful Darth Vader moments we have ever had. Seeing him slashing through the Rebels with both saber and Force is an utter delight, and a perfect way to lead into A New Hope.
