Star Wars: Solo Trailer Breakdown - 20 Things You Need To See
13. Val
Beckett's team is rounded out by two more characters we know little about. One is a monkey-esque alien, because what's a Star Wars movie without a new alien or two? This one looks like the love-child of Rogue One's Bistan and Rebel hero Nien Nunb. Now there's a Star Wars Story to tell...
Even better, though, is Thandie Newton's character, whose name has been revealed as Val. Between this and Westworld's new trailer, Newton had a great Super Bowl, and the common link between the two is that she looks awesome and as though she'd kick your ass as soon as look at you in both. That's some serious side-eye she's giving there, which suggests that she's not going to be taken any sh*t from this stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerfherder.
Previous speculation suggested she was an Imperial officer, after a BTS photo from director Ron Howard showed her wearing a jacket seemingly bearing the insignia, so either that's a bluff, or she's turned away from the Empire and is working underground.
