James Earl Jones was already a respected stage and screen actor before Star Wars, but it was lending his already deep voice to Darth Vader that turned him into an icon.
Jones would voice Vader in all his big screen appearances, as well as in The Star Wars Holiday Special, Star Wars: The Interactive Video Board Game, Star Tours and Star Wars: Rebels.
Jones originally went uncredited, believing providing the voice wasn't much more than a special effect. This was rectified come The Empire Strikes Back, and he was eventually added to A New Hope's credits come the Special Edition.
