Star Wars: The Best Moment From Every Movie, Ranked

6. Anakin's Redemption - Star Wars: Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi

Empire Strikes Back
Lucasfilm

Like other entries on this list, the redemption of Anakin Skywalker in Episode VI - Return of the Jedi has grown more powerful over the years, thanks to the Star Wars franchise's ability to keep adding fresh layers to the fallen Jedi's story.

In the context of the original trilogy, Anakin renouncing his ways as Darth Vader for the love of his son is a deeply emotional twist, perhaps obvious in hindsight but no less meaningful in execution. It allows Luke to find peace with his father, and for Anakin to die the hero he was always meant to be.

Given the wider context of Anakin's story, seeing him throw Emperor Palpatine to his death and dying moments later by Luke's side is even more brilliant, showing a wounded warrior fallen from grace who eventually sees the light, thanks to the enduring love he feels for his lost family.

One of the great cinematic redemption arcs, Anakin's absolution in Return is a highlight in a film with many, and seems poised to become more compelling with every passing year.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
