Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Deleted Scenes Which Would've Made It Perfect

2. A Very Different Poe Dameron

I love Oscar Isaac and the Poe Dameron we ended up getting was great, but man, the original plans for the character do sound pretty damn exciting. Poe was initially dreamt up as a black man in his 30s or 40s, and went through a number of iterations, with the idea of making him a Jedi thrown around before it was decided that he should be a Bounty Hunter. Oh, and he was going to have a badass Wookie sidekick. Of course, if like me you're sick of the endless comparisons between A New Hope and The Force Awakens, you're probably relieved that this was ditched as that's one less thing for some fans to moan about. Poe isn't the only character who underwent a transformation though. Rey was going to be much more of a loner with some serious badass traits, spending her free time practising on a flight simulator. While the final versions we got of both of these heroes was great, incorporating some of these edgier elements into them would have been very interesting, especially as it would have perhaps taken the movie down a slightly darker path, thereby resulting in a tone a little more similar to The Empire Strikes Back. Ultimately though, that obviously wasn't the vision Abrams had for The Force Awakens, hence why these ideas were scrapped.
