6. The Rebels Lose To The First Order

In Star Wars, most people generally remember the happy endings in which the bad guys lose and the good guys win. What people generally skip over is that the endings for Empire Strikes Back and Revenge Of The Sith were actually ones where the bad guys win and the good guys were the losers. Having done winning and losing endings across the first six Star Wars films, who's to say that The Force Awakens won't end on somewhat of a bittersweet note? Based on photos and the trailers, the First Order seem to be packing quite a bit of aerial firepower and more than enough stormtroopers to spare. By comparison, the Rebels seem to still be the scrappy underdog who struggles to live another day. With the odds stacked against the Rebels, it seems quite likely that the good guys will lose once again in a Star Wars film but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Audiences love an underdog story and the Rebel's struggle against immense adversity will win over any skeptics. Furthermore, this sets up a Rebel comeback story of sorts for future Star Wars films and who doesn't like a scrappy underdog comeback story these days? Whilst there's the possibility of the bad guys winning or the good guys winning, there's a third possibility for the Rebel and First Order conflict...
