Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Ways The Final Trailer Eased Your Fears
6. The Blend Of CGI & Practical Effects Looks Seamless
It was one of the biggest irks to be associated with the prequel trilogy: the way that practical effects and CGI were used in sync just gave the movies an unappealing aesthetic look. Whilst Revenge of the Sith did a better job handling these aspects, The Phantom Menance and Attack Of The Clones (especially Attack Of The Clones) are rather ugly affairs. There's something about the early-ish CGI effects coupled with the occasional puppet that just didn't quite work, so naturally this was still a concern for many eager Star Wars fans. Fans have a weird thing when it comes to the use of CGI and Star Wars, of course; they're not against it, exactly, but there's a sense that it should be used in moderation; employed only when practical effects are impossible. Thankfully, the new trailer puts any fears to rest with regards to J.J. Abrams' use of CGI in the movie. Whilst lots of CGI has clearly been used, it feels blended with the practical sets in a way that feels really natural. Phew.
