Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Ways The Final Trailer Eased Your Fears

7. J.J. Abrams Didn't Spoil Anything Or Reveal Too Much

Another big concern that diehard fans had with regards to Episode VII was one associated with the final trailer itself; would J.J. Abrams make the mistake of revealing too much? Trailers nowadays, after all, are like full motion pictures in themselves. There's a sense that studios are so afraid that people won't "get" what any given film is about that they opt to just show the film in its entirety instead. Which, of course, is a terrible marketing idea - one that is probably more likely to prevent somebody from watching a movie. It was, in retrospect, silly to doubt J.J. Abrams, a man who has built his career almost entirely out of teasing fans and building expectations. From Lost to Super 8 to Star Trek, Abrams has carved out his place as a marketing genius; even when the final products have proved underwhelming, their marketing campaigns were clever and masterful affairs. So of course the final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens offers very little in the way of plot; it is essentially a teaser trailer disguised as a full length trailer, and - despite the disappoint that was felt from some fans - that's a seriously good thing. Abrams did a great job in creating a trailer that increased the hype, but offered little in the way of story.
