Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Ways The Final Trailer Eased Your Fears
4. The Movie Doesn't Look Too Nostalgia Heavy
It's a difficult balance to pull off, but the new trailer seems to showcase an Episode VII that embraces the franchise's legacy whilst still taking the story to new places. Whilst nostalgia is going to play heavily on audience's reaction to the final film, it makes sense that the final trailer emphasises the newer characters over the old ones. So whilst we see much of Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren and a few shots of Poe Dameron, we don't see all that much of iconic characters such as Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. The droids, usually heavily featured in marketing, are also noticeably absent in the trailer (there is a brief shot of R2-D2, but it's reused from the second teaser and very brief). Han Solo features the most with regards to the classic characters, but there's still a sense that he's in mentor mode - not a main character. And this is the direction that the movies absolutely should be taking, otherwise you end up with convoluted plot lines where it turns out that Darth Vader built C-3PO. The perfect Episode VII is one that embraces the classic movies whilst branching out to tell its own story, and this trailer looks to confirm that approach on the filmmakers' part. Time to relax.
