8. Maz Kanata

After keeping her appearance (mostly) secret for the entire production - along with the look of Supreme Leader Snoke - somebody in LucasFilm's marketing department clearly thought that it would be appropriate to let everyone see what space pirate elder Maz Kanata looks like in a brief shot in a TV spot. That's not the most glamorous way to introduce a new key character, but at least we now know that she sort of looks like ET wearing bottle glasses and a bonnet. And she looks pretty good for 1000 years old.
