Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8 Crazy Fan Theories About Luke Skywalker
5. He's Being Held In Captivity
The end of Return Of The Jedi was all hugs, smiles, and Ewok celebrations, although Luke himself was still something of a sombre figure, unsurprising given he'd just been tortured by the Emperor and then watched his father die. After that, however, things might have taken a turn for the worse. We don't know exactly what Luke got up to next, but there was still work to be done in truly defeating the Empire and breaking its hold on the galaxy. Which means that there were still plenty of bad guys out there, who'd very much be after Luke. This idea goes that at some point during the years after Return Of The Jedi, Luke was effectively taken as a prisoner by some sinister forces, and is being held captive by them throughout the movie. Why? Because there's a new super weapon, and its Luke's powers needed in order to trigger it, which means he is no longer using them. It could also be that he's being held captive as a trap, so as to lure in another Force sensitive character, and kill two birds with one lightsaber.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
