Youd be forgiven for being so excited from nearly seeing Finn and Kylo Ren square off that you may have not been giving your full attention to the title reveal at the end of the trailer. Whats interesting is that the movie has been officially titled simply Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Note the lack of an episodic designation.
Though it's been presented this way ever since The Force Awakens title was announced, the lack of Episode VII being officially present anywhere in this full trailer would all but cement the fact that the film is distancing itself from this categorization.
There's a few possibilities as to why this is happening. The simple answer is that it's calling back to the days of the original trilogy, when the movies were simply titled Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return Of The Jedi. Using episodes in the titles was designed for the prequel trilogy to clarify the timeline but that doesn't seem to be an issue here.
Likewise, it may be a deliberate marketing strategy to distract from the extended continuity. Since their established audience is well-aware of this fact, its exclusion lets the executives treat the film like a reboot or the start of a new series (which is sort of is) to draw in younger fans, without them feeling overwhelmed..
Episode VII will almost assuredly accompany the opening crawl in the film itself, but this small detail calls into question this previously assumed fact.
