From the second he was unveiled, BB-8 was a character destined to become a fan-favourite. This was only compounded when it was revealed that the loveable new droid was brought to life with a cleverly created remote controlled model rather than CGI. That's one hell of a technical achievement, and Sphero's pricey replica predictably became the must-have item this Christmas. Of course, that toy isn't quite the same as having your very own life-size BB-8, something Mindel obvious got to experience first hand. This photo shows off the droid during a quiet moment on set with the controls used to bring him to life left idle. This snap appears to have been taken aboard the Millennium Falcon, a fitting place for this character to spend some time seeing as he's following in the footsteps of well-loved Star Wars regulars like R2-D2 and C-3PO.
