Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8 Scenes The Movie Desperately Needed

6. Finn Fights Captain Phasma (Instead Of That Random Stormtrooper)

Remember that scene in The Force Awakens where Finn faces off against a Stormtrooper who calls him a "traitor" and then proceeds to pull out a sort of baton that can somehow withstand the blade of a lightsaber? The two fight it out, and just before Finn is defeated, Han Solo turns up, shoots the Stormtrooper and saves the day. Of course you do - it's become a bloody meme. Thing is, the way the scene plays out, there's a sense that the Stormtrooper in question has history with Finn. And they do, though it's outside of the context of the film and technically doesn't count; within the movie there's no real weight to the fight outside of it being (very) cool. Wouldn't it have made a lot more sense had this fight been against Captain Phasma instead, then? After all, Phasma and Finn have history; there's a scene early in the movie where she reprimands him and begins to suspect something might be wrong. Also: Phasma has nothing good to do in the movie, and a fight scene with Finn would have corrected that. It also would have made the scene towards the end of the film where he throws her in the trash compactor more resonant. All in all, it's hard to see how Abrams missed this opportunity - it makes perfect sense!
