Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Ranking The New Characters Worst To Best

8. Captain Phasma

In some ways, Captain Phasma is to The Force Awakens as Boba Fett was to The Empire Strikes Back. Aside from the "cool costume" comparison, those involved have done a lot to condition us to think she'd have a much larger role in the film than she actually did, with the character only getting a few scenes scattered throughout the film before being (presumably) thrown into a trash compactor off-screen. As she's proven on Game of Thrones, Gwendoline Christie is a great actress, and even with so little to work with in The Force Awakens - underneath a helmet the entire time, no less - she still made the character memorable enough throughout to keep us hoping she gets a lot more to do down the road. Moments like her sudden appearance behind Finn and annoyance with him taking his helmet off hinted at a character far more foreboding than the one who got tackled by Chewie and allowed herself to be forced to lower the shields later in the film. Ideally, Episode VIII can give Christie loads more to work with, especially in terms of giving Phasma herself the chance to actually partake in the action and show us how fearsome she can (and should) be. Fingers crossed she doesn't become to Episode VIII what Fett was to Return of the Jedi, returning only to disappoint.
