Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Ranking The New Characters Worst To Best
7. General Hux
Whereas Phasma got shortchanged in terms of screentime, General Hux got more than most were likely expecting. Granted, the character didn't get any real development, but actor Domhnall Gleeson layered little things into his performance that can undoubtedly be built upon going forward. For the most part, Hux was the embodiment of everything evil about The First Order. In comparison to the more emotional Kylo Ren, Hux remained calm and calculated, without remorse for his role in destroying planets or hesitation about his belief system. Within the film, he's a simple character, sure, but one that worked in highlighting the contrast between overzealous people like him leading The First Order and those caught up in it with conflicting emotions and ideologies, whether it be Finn or even Kylo Ren. With his smug looks and attempts to undermine Ren - especially in trying to prove his worth in front of Snoke - there are many hints peppered throughout the film at the insecurity underneath Hux's exterior that could open him up a bit in the next film(s), especially now that his Starkiller Base has been taken from him.
