Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Ranking The Original Characters Worst To Best
4. Luke Skywalker
If there's one disappointment in terms of the original cast's return for The Force Awakens, it's that Luke Skywalker had to take a backseat, leaving us hanging until 2017 to actually get our patience over his return well and truly rewarded. In the context of the film, though, Luke's absence made sense; even going unseen, his presence was still all over the place. Aside from the search for him being part of the film's narrative thrust, many of the major characters were influenced by him, including Leia's motivation to be reunited with her brother, R2's low-power state, Kylo Ren's fall from grace, and even Rey's own quest for answers about both her past and the Force-filled questions of her future. Just as he is presented in the film, Luke has also become a mythic figure for the generations of fans who have grown up and lived with the original trilogy for decades, conjuring up their own ideas of his life post-Return of the Jedi. When he finally turned up in the final moments of the film, it's not just a big moment for Rey or for the story, but for those of us who've long been waiting to have our questions about Luke answered on the big screen.
