Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Ranking The Original Characters Worst To Best
3. Chewbacca
So who didn't tear up seeing Chewie mourning the loss of his best friend near the end of the film? It's a testament to the series that it's endeared a single character - one we can't even technically understand - to fans the world over. The Star Wars universe is littered with this of course, but the world's favorite Wookiee remains the biggest shining example of that feat. Even without "knowing" what he's saying on the surface, fans have somehow come to know exactly what he means, what he's feeling, and what his personality is like over the films, to the point where it was astoundingly easy to share his pain and sympathize with him when he goes ballistic at the sight of Han's death. Discounting his minor role in Revenge of the Sith, Chewie has been linked throughout the films almost exclusively to his friendship with Han, with the two being an inseparable dynamic duo. With Han no longer in the picture, The Force Awakens left Chewie off at Rey's side, opening him up (hopefully) to growth as a character through that new friendship and even how he'll respond to seeing Kylo Ren again. Regardless of whatever happens next, the film did right by the character, and even though it had to sever a dynamic fans have known for decades in doing so, it's hard not to be excited for what his future holds.
